Carl Reck

Carl L. Reck, 92, of Covington, passed away Sunday evening, November 24, 2024, at Koester Pavilion, Troy. He was born April 29, 1932, in Covington, to the late Lloyd W. and Martha A. (Webb) Reck. He married Lois J. (Holfinger) Reck on July 30, 1955; she preceded him in death on May 30, 2024.

Carl will be missed and remembered by his children, Sandra (Mark) Morris of Huntsville and Daryl (Brenda) Reck of Covington; daughter-in-law Mindy Campbell of Springfield; six grandchildren, Justin (Jessi), Aaron, Alyssa, Matthew (Kirsten), Jessica and Kevin II; and four great-grandchildren, Josie, Nolan, Aurora and Faelan. He was preceded in death by son Kevin Reck; grandson Michael Reck; and brother John Reck.

Carl was a 1950 graduate of Covington High School and a 1953 graduate of Indiana Technical College with his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He retired from Hartzell Fan of Piqua in 1998 after working many years as an engineer. After retirement, he worked another 10 years for Hartzell as an engineering consultant, finally retiring in 2008.

He attended Covington Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir. He was past director of the hand bell and senior choirs at the former Covington United Church of Christ. Carl was active in music his whole life, singing in the “Bare-A-Tone Four” barbershop quartet and leading the UCC church band. He had been a member of the former Covington Kiwanis Club and a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge. He also had a lifelong involvement with Scouting, having attended the 1947 Boy Scout Jamboree in France, and remaining active with the local Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops for many years. Carl also enjoyed traveling and working with wood, having built many model airplanes and items for his model train hobby.

Funeral services to honor his life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 2, at Moore Funeral Home, 10 S. High St., Covington, with Pastor Greg Kurtz officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be held at 3:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Covington Presbyterian Church.
