Edward R. “Eddie Ray” Hartley, 66, of Covington, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Hospice of Miami County Inpatient Unit, Troy. He was born March 30, 1953, in Piqua, to the late Louis and Wanda (Christopher) Hartley. He married Joan M. “Jody” (Arkenberg) Hartley, and she survives.
Ed will also be missed and remembered by his daughters, Angela (Nicholas) Deeter of Pleasant Hill and Tori (Darrell) Hite of Covington; five grandchildren, Cierra Deeter, Derek Hite, Mallori Deeter, Madison Hite and Bryson Hite; his siblings, Robert (Debbie) Hartley of Dayton, Jane Ann (Dale) Kenworthy, Karen Studebaker, and Chris Simon, all of Covington; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Larry Studebaker.
Ed was a 1971 graduate of Covington High School and was later inducted into the CHS Athletic Hall of Fame. He attended and played basketball at Urbana University. Ed worked for the Hobart Corp. and Denizen in Piqua. He was a member of the V.F.W. #4235, Eagles #3998, and Amvets #66, all of Covington. He enjoyed NASCAR, basketball, football, and time spent with his grandchildren and their sporting events. Ed was an outgoing people person who never met a stranger.
A gathering to celebrate Ed’s life will be held from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday, November 23, at Moore Funeral Home, 10 S. High St., Covington. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be left for the Hartley family at www.moorefh.com.
