Elaine Barker

Elaine R. Barker, 96, of Covington, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Ohio’s Hospice, Troy. She was born November 14, 1925, in Chillicothe, to the late Harry Clifton and Mary McNeal (Sifford) Snyder. She married James J. Barker on September 25, 1948; he preceded her in death on April 5, 2007.

She will be missed and remembered by her children, Brad Barker of Covington, Eric Barker of Graytown, Mark (Cindy) Barker of Huron, and Rebecca Byers of Defuniak Springs, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Johannah “Tutti” Powell; a grandson, Joshua “Bear” Barker; and sisters, Mary Bailey and Maxine Coleman.

Elaine was a 1943 graduate of Covington High School and was a member of the Covington Christian Church. She worked many years as a librarian and proofreader for the Sandusky Register, and retired from New Tech Plastics. Elaine enjoyed gardening and playing cards, and had been a member of garden and card clubs through the years. She had also flipped houses, was an avid reader, and enjoyed teaching others.

Funeral services to honor her life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 20, at Moore Funeral Home, 10 S. High St., Covington, with Pastor Nick Church officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the J.R.
