Vivian Geraldine “Gerry” Benedict, 100, passed away Thursday morning, June 26, 2025, at Piqua Manor. Born in Covington on March 7, 1925, Gerry was a sixth-generation descendant of Covington’s first resident, Michael Ingle. With the exception of a few years, she lived nearly all her life in Covington.
Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, James Roger and Helen (Hickman) Finfrock; her husband, Michael J. Benedict; son Michael Benedict (Rose Rushman); sister Mary Longendelpher; brothers Dean and Thomas Finfrock; grandson Robert Von Aschen; and great-grandson Bradley Von Aschen.
Gerry is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Von Aschen of Covington; son Robert (Anne) Benedict, of Everett, Wash.; sister Ruth Flory of Henderson, Nev.; four grandchildren, Kerri (David) Chappie of Cedar City; Utah, Adam Von Aschen of Covington, Angela McCullah of Union and Robert (Booyuh) Benedict of Chiang Rai, Thailand; and 10 great-grandchildren, Derek Nicodemus, Jordan Lockhart, Brooke Von Aschen, Kody Von Aschen, Christopher Von Aschen, Connor McCullah, Oliver Von Aschen, and Ezra, Elsie and Selah Benedict. Additionally, Gerry is survived by six nieces and nephews; and one great-great-grandchild.
Gerry was a 1943 graduate of Covington High School and earned her cosmetology license in Lima, Ohio. She worked there a few years, where she met her husband Mike. She was involved in and taught ceramics classes for several years, and produced and sold her creations for two decades throughout Miami County.
Active in the community, Gerry was a Cub Scout den mother for several years. She was a member of Covington Presbyterian Church for 70 years, where she served the church as a Deacon into her 90s.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Moore Funeral Home, 10 S. High St., Covington, with Pastor Greg Kurtz officiating. Friends may visit from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Covington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Covington Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be left for the family at moorefh.com.
