James L. “Jim” Holfinger, 84, of Beavercreek, passed away Friday morning, September 19, 2025, at Kettering Health in Kettering. He was born November 21, 1940, in Miami County, to the late Harold and Lucille (Iddings) Holfinger.
Jim will be missed and remembered by his wife, Judith E. (Meyers) Holfinger; his children, Julie Holfinger of Beavercreek, Lesa (Dave) Steinbrunner of Cincinnati, Todd (Heather) Holfinger of Beavercreek, Susie Smith of Xenia and Mary Hollon of Alpha; seven grandchildren, Michael, Madeline, Todd, Max, Maria, Sam and Reagan; stepsons Dean (Darlene) Lucas and David Lucas.
Jim grew up on the Holfinger family farm on Myers Road, where they raised popcorn and other crops. He graduated from Newton High School in 1958, and went on to graduate from the University of Dayton. He worked as a computer programmer for NCR and Montgomery County. Jim was a member of Ascension Catholic Church of Kettering. He enjoyed fishing and loved many trips to the family cabin in Canada over the years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, at Moore Funeral Home, 10 S. High St., Covington, with Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Covington. Friends may visit with the family from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program at Newton or Covington schools. Online condolences may be left for the Holfinger family at moorefh.com.
