Scott Bowman

Scott A. Bowman, 76, of Covington, passed away early Monday morning, July 7, 2025, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, after a brief illness. He was born October 5, 1948, in Piqua, to the late Don R. and Elizabeth “Betty” A. (Manning) Bowman. He married Dawn (Smith) Bowman on April 27, 1984; she survives.

He will also be missed and remembered by his children, Christopher (Lorraine) Bowman of Covington, Marcie (Sean) Sexton of Columbus, Christine (Nick) Swartz of Covington; and four grandchildren, Aubrey, Nicole, Laci and Gavin. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Bowman; and an infant brother, Michael Bowman.

Scott was a 1966 graduate of Covington High School and served in the U.S. Air Force for four years after high school. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and served as a helicopter rescue paramedic from 1969-70. He was proud to have served with the Jolly Green Giants, stationed in Nakom Phanom, Thailand and Laos. He earned several medals for his honorable service, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Airman’s Medal, Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, and Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon.

Returning home, he returned to his roots working in the auto parts business, having worked for his father Don at Web’s Auto Parts. Scott worked for various Miami County dealerships as a parts manager, service manager, and as director of fixed operations at Joe Johnson Chevrolet.

He served on the Covington Fire Department Rescue Squad for several years in the 1970s and was an officer with the Covington Police Department and also was a sheriff’s deputy. Scott was an avid golfer and enjoyed taking care of his property and yard. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and his dog Katt.

Funeral services to honor his life will be held on Friday, July 18, at Moore Funeral Home, 10 S. High St., Covington. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Friends may visit with the family from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Miami Valley Veterans Museum, c/o The Troy Foundation, 216 W. Franklin St., Troy, OH 45373.
