Hobart Ely

Hobart E. Ely, 85, of Covington, passed away Friday, December 3, 2021, at Randall Residence, Troy. He was born December 4, 1935, in Miami County, to the late Verl and Velma (Pence) Ely. He married Barbara (Rike) Ely on June 26, 1956; she preceded him in death on October 13, 2012. Hobart was a longtime area farmer and also worked for many years as a mechanic.

He will be missed and remembered by his two sons, Dennis (Julie) Ely of Piqua and Rus (Amy) Ely of Covington; two sisters, Shirley Shefbuch of Covington and Judy (Jim) Randolph of Huber Heights; a brother-in-law, Jimmy (Roberta) Rike of Covington; three grandsons, William Ely, Brian (Breanna) Ely, and Cory (Tabby) Ely; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Smith; and in-laws Kenneth Shefbuch, Bill Smith, and Virginia Schmidt.

Private memorial services for the family will be held at Moore Funeral Home, Covington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Covington Fire & Rescue, 801 E. Broadway, Covington, OH 45318. Online condolences may be left for the Ely family at www.moorefh.com.
