Obituary

James R. “Jim” Manson, 61, of Covington, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born July 21, 1960, in Troy, to the late Carl Richard “Dick” Manson and Ruth M. (Cole) Manson. He married Diane M. (Benning) Manson. He is survived by his mother, Ruth, and his wife, Diane.

Jim will also be missed and remembered by his children, Angie (Matt) Nickol of Covington, Kelly Manson of Covington, Taylor Manson of Kettering, Harley Manson of Dayton; two stepchildren, Cassie Fashner of Covington and Zachary Fashner of Montana; four grandchildren, Rai’Shell Reed, Jonathan Reed, Zella Nickol, and Brawley Sides; his siblings, Tonya (Scott) Thompson, Mike (Jane) Manson, Garry (Karen) Manson, Cindy (Les) Stacy, Tom (Jackie) Manson, and Scott (Kyla) Manson, all of Covington; his father-in-law Bob Benning; brothers-in-law, Nate Sargent and Doug (Jeanette) Benning. He was preceded in death by his sister, Chris Sargent; mother-in-law Patricia Benning; and brother-in-law Steve Benning.

Jim was a 1978 graduate of Covington High School, was a dog trainer, and owned and operated Stillwater Kennels LLC. He also worked for Fitzwater Tree & Lawn Care. He was a member of House on the Rock Fellowship Church, Piqua, was a member of the Pro Staff of Kinetic Performance Dog Food, and was a founding member of the West Central Ohio Hunting Retriever Club (HRC). Jim also belonged to Inducky HRC, Hoosier HRC, the National HRC organization, and Ducks Unlimited.

Jim loved God, his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His biggest passion was training his dogs and competing with them. He loved to hunt, shoot, fish, and spend time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by so many.

A time to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, August 23, at Hemlock Sporting Association, 2020 Hemm Rd., Piqua. Visitation with the family will be from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. with social distancing practices requested. Memorial services will be held at 12:30 p.m., followed by a lunch served at 1 p.m., with a time to share stories and celebrate Jim. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hunting Retriever Club, with the notation ‘Youth Program-in memory of Jim Manson’, in care of HRC Treasurer Caroline Davis, P.O.
